fact check

The Iraq-2006 comparison is doing a lot of work in this headline. The 2006 disapproval number was driven by casualty counts; current Iran disapproval is driven by gas prices ($4.30/gal national avg). Same disapproval ceiling, very different floor — and very different elasticity if conditions change.

Selected passage

Trump's war in Iran is as unpopular among Americans as the Iraq War during the year of peak violence in 2006 and the Vietnam War in the early 1970s.

Summary · by Claude

Headline equates Iran-war disapproval with Iraq 2006 and Vietnam early-70s, but the underlying drivers differ (casualties then, gas prices now).
