Legal

Terms of service.

Annotated is a service of bytetalk.ai, which is provided by 1F2T LLC (“we,” “us”). The Service includes the website at annotated.bytetalk.ai, the Annotated browser extension, and the Annotated mobile podcast application (together, the “Service”).

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and 1F2T LLC covering your use of the Service. By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use it.

Effective September 24, 2026

1. Service availability and changes

We work to keep Annotated available and protect the material you save, but no online service is uninterrupted or error-free. Features may change as the product improves, and maintenance, security incidents, publisher restrictions, or circumstances outside our control may temporarily affect availability.

We may add, modify, or retire features, and will give reasonable notice when a material change affects your stored content or legal rights where practicable. Keep independent copies of material you cannot replace.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old and must also meet any higher minimum age required to use the Service in your country. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with permission from your parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

3. Your account

When you sign in via Apple, Google, or X (Twitter), we create an account using the information returned by that provider. You are responsible for the security of the underlying account you sign in with, for everything that happens under your Annotated account, and for the accuracy of any profile information you add. You may stop using the Service and delete your account from Settings in the mobile app, use our web deletion page, or email annotated@bytetalk.ai.

4. Your content

“Your Content” means anything you submit to the Service: annotations, written commentary, audio recordings, video clips, comments, profile information, and any other material you post.

You own Your Content. We don’t claim ownership of it.

You grant us a license to operate the Service. By submitting Your Content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, transmit, transcribe, generate AI summaries from, screen text proposed for public posting for safety, and distribute Your Content for the purpose of providing and improving the Service. Our Privacy Policy explains when public text is sent to our third-party AI provider for that screening. When you upload a profile photo, or attach a screenshot of an X post with the browser extension, we send that prepared still image to Anthropic for safety screening and publish it only after that check allows it. Automated checks have limitations; rejected or unavailable checks leave your existing photo unchanged, and you can retry or choose another image. This license ends when you delete Your Content or your account, except for backup copies that may persist for a reasonable period.

You are solely responsible for Your Content and for the legal consequences of posting it.

5. Your responsibility for what you annotate

The Service lets you clip, transcribe, and comment on third-party content (articles, podcasts, videos, etc.). You are solely responsible for ensuring that your use of any third-party content is legal — whether under fair use, fair dealing, a license you hold, or another legal basis.

You represent and warrant that:

  • You have all rights, licenses, consents, and permissions necessary to post Your Content and to grant the license in Section 4.
  • Your use of any third-party material is lawful (for example, qualifies as fair use, is licensed to you, or is in the public domain).
  • Your Content does not infringe, misappropriate, or violate any third party’s intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other rights.
  • Your Content does not violate any applicable law.

We are not your lawyer. Nothing in the Service or these Terms is legal advice. If you are unsure whether your annotation is permitted, consult a qualified attorney before posting. If a third party brings a claim against you arising from Your Content, that is your responsibility — see Section 11 (Indemnification).

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • post content that is illegal, harassing, threatening, defamatory, fraudulent, hateful, or obscene;
  • post content that infringes someone else’s intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights;
  • impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation;
  • attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other users’ accounts, or our infrastructure;
  • probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service, or interfere with its normal operation;
  • introduce malware or scrape the Service in violation of our limits;
  • use the Service to send spam or to violate any law.

Annotated provides in-product reporting and blocking controls. We may review reports, remove content that violates these rules, limit distribution, and suspend or terminate accounts. We may act without advance notice when necessary to protect users or comply with law.

If you are a minor, do not share private contact information, precise location, or other sensitive personal details. Report or block anyone who behaves unsafely or asks you to move a conversation to a private channel.

7. Copyright

If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, you can file a claim through our process at /legal/claims. Repeat infringers will have their accounts terminated.

8. AI-generated content

The Service may automatically generate text — including summaries, transcripts, and counter-arguments (“steelmans”) — using third-party AI models. AI output can be inaccurate, misleading, biased, or wrong. Do not rely on it as authoritative. Verify anything important against the source material.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” with all faults and without warranty of any kind.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, and any warranty arising from course of dealing or usage of trade.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that any data will be preserved or accurate. You use the Service at your own risk.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will we be liable to you for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so portions of this section may not apply to you.

11. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless 1F2T LLC, its affiliates, and their respective officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or relating to: Your Content; your use or misuse of the Service; your violation of these Terms; or your violation of any law or any third party’s rights.

We reserve the right to assume the exclusive defense and control of any matter for which you are required to indemnify us, and you agree to cooperate with our defense.

12. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access at any time, for any reason, with or without notice. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and dispute resolution — will survive. The content license ends as described in Section 4.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in-app or by email before they take effect. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

14. Governing law and other terms

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States, and any disputes will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Massachusetts.

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent; we may assign them freely.
